Is Amundsen-Bellingshausen Seas-Low affecting trace gas air-sea fluxes in the Antarctic Ocean?

چکیده
Observations of chlorofluorocarbon in the Antarctic Ocean and a concomitant analysis its life history for past 80 years reveal recently identified Amundsen-Bellingshausen Seas Low (ABSL) persuaded invasion Antarctic/Southern sectors. Two distinct roles ABSL trace gas fluxes are identified; (a) helps to localize prominent zones gases sector specific areas over Seas, (b) it modulates ‘grip’ southern annular mode Ocean. The region is gateway ∼25% hemispheric invading ocean. study has implications on their changes under present future climate.

Oceanographic Observations at the Amundsen Sea Shelf Break
The continental shelf environment of the Amundsen and Bellingshausen seas differs markedly from that of the other circumpolar seas, where water temperatures are close to the surface freezing point throughout. In the Amundsen/Bellingshausen sector near-freezing temperatures are encountered only in the upper few hundred metres of the water column. Below this surface layer a broad thermocline tren...
متن کاملWater masses, ocean fronts, and the structure of Antarctic seabird communities Putting the eastern Bellingshausen Sea in perspective
Waters off the western Antarctic Peninsula (i.e., the eastern Bellingshausen Sea) are unusually complex owing to the convergence of several major fronts. Determining the relative influence of fronts on occurrence patterns of top-trophic species in that area, therefore, has been challenging. In one of the few ocean-wide seabird data syntheses, in this case for the Southern Ocean, we analyzed amp...
متن کاملResolving the abundance and air-sea fluxes of airborne microorganisms in the North Atlantic Ocean
Airborne transport of microbes may play a central role in microbial dispersal, the maintenance of diversity in aquatic systems and in meteorological processes such as cloud formation. Yet, there is almost no information about the abundance and fate of microbes over the oceans, which cover >70% of the Earth's surface and are the likely source and final destination of a large fraction of airborne...

متن کاملParticle flux on the continental shelf in the Amundsen Sea Polynya and Western Antarctic Peninsula
We report results from a yearlong, moored sediment trap in the Amundsen Sea Polynya (ASP), the first such time series in this remote and productive ecosystem. Results are compared to a long-term (1992–2013) time series from the western Antarctic Peninsula (WAP). The ASP trap was deployed from December 2010 to December 2011 at 350 m depth. We observed two brief, but high flux events, peaking at ...
